Return Policy
We have a 30-day return policy, which means you have 30 days from the date you receive your item to request a return.
For a full refund, your item must be unopened and in its original packaging to be eligible for a return. If the items have been opened, they must be in the same condition that you received them, unused, with the original packaging. There is a 15% restocking fee on all items that have been opened. You'll also need the receipt or proof of purchase.
To start a return, contact us at hello@backyardbrains.com to receive an RMA number. If your return is accepted, we'll send you instructions on how and where to send your package. Items returned to us without first requesting a return will not be accepted. You can always contact us for any return questions at hello@backyardbrains.com.
Damages and Issues
Please inspect your order upon reception and contact us immediately if the item is defective, damaged, or if you receive the wrong item, so that we can evaluate the issue and make it right.
Exceptions / Non-Returnable Items
Consumable items cannot be returned, such as electrodes or gel. Please get in touch if you have questions or concerns about your specific item. Unfortunately, we cannot accept returns on sale items or gift cards.
Exchanges
The fastest way to ensure you get what you want is to return the item you have, and once the return is accepted, make a separate purchase for the new item.
Refunds
We will notify you once we've received and inspected your return, and let you know if the refund was approved or not. If approved, you'll be automatically refunded on your original payment method within 10 business days. Please remember it can take some time for your bank or credit card company to process and post the refund too. If more than 15 business days have passed since we've approved your return, please contact us at hello@backyardbrains.com.
European Union / EEA: Your 14-Day Right of Withdrawal
If you're a consumer in the EU or EEA, you have the right to cancel or return your order within 14 days of receiving it, for any reason and without justification. Use the cancellation link on our store or email us at hello@backyardbrains.com within that window, and we'll confirm by email. Your item must be in the same condition you received it — unused and in its original packaging — and you'll need your receipt or proof of purchase.
A few practical notes:
- Return shipping is paid by you. Once you've told us you're cancelling, you cover the cost of sending the item back. We're in Ann Arbor, Michigan, USA, so for international returns this can be significant — worth factoring in before you buy.
- No restocking fee on EU withdrawals. Our usual 15% restocking fee does not apply when you exercise this right. If the item comes back showing use beyond what's needed to check it works, we may reduce your refund to reflect that lost value.
- What we refund. The price of the goods plus the original standard delivery cost (if you chose a faster, pricier shipping option, we refund up to the standard rate). We process refunds within 14 days and may wait until we've received the item back or you've provided proof that you sent it.
- Some items can't be canceled this way, including made-to-order or personalized items, and sealed software or downloadable content once opened or started.
- This right is in addition to our general 30-day return policy above — whichever is better for you applies.
